We are interested in understanding at the network, cellular and genetic level how neural circuits develop, function and evolve. We explore this fascinating topic by employing a multidisciplinary approach, integrating a suite of advanced neuroscience methods such as cross-species comparative connectomics, volumetric imaging, electrophysiology, single-cell transcriptomics, computational modelling, behavioural analysis and genetic manipulation. As models we harness the rich ecological diversity found within the Drosophila species complex, and mostly use the olfactory system as our main model circuit, although we have projects with other insects and central circuits.
